what's attractive on stage need not necessarily be attractive off

If you like your opera, well, operatic, it's hard to do better than the current to-do at La Scala. You can find the blow-by-blow over at OperaChic. In depth commentary and all manner of footnotes from the peanut gallery, as usual, at Parterre. I, for once, don't have a damn thing to say except it's made for exceptionally fun reading.

[The secondary theme of this posting is: yes, I have a line from All About Eve for every occasion. Much like Uncle Tom's Cabin, it is the key to all knowledge and culture.]

HAY MAURY! The Alagna incident is getting crazy! Alagna's saying all sorts of things...like how he's going to sue La Scala for poor working conditions, and how the booing incident was actually a scripted conspiracy. gah.

We'll have to wait until this Thursday, when he says he will return to the stage, but Lissner (GM of La Scala) already told him there's no way he's coming back!

Meri, I was having trouble with the video, which distracted me from the audio. I've always thought he was a great fit for French lyric stuff.

The costume is hilarious. As Opera Chic pointed out, Wonder Woman called--she wants her wardrobe back.

maury,

thanks so much for posting that link.

I'd add a few exclamation points but I'm trying to expunge them from all of written communications.

"What do you all take me for -- little Nell from the country? Been my understudy for over a week without my knowing, shows up when everyone knew I'd be here, and gives a performance! Out of nowhere -- gives a performance -- full of fire and music and what-not, carefully rehearsed I have no doubt, full of those Franco Zeffirelli touches!"

God, Anne Baxter is the only thing that could make all this even better. Have I mentioned my Anne Baxter fixation?

Isis, indeed! Wasn't she on after Electric Woman and Dynagirl? I think I was into her.
