You could definitely put on an excerpts schtick for 10 minutes that shows off tunes the whole audience knows. Largo, Calunnia, the shaving scene...

You can do a lot with Barber, but they didn't. It was bad enough that one has to wonder if it was intentional sabotage.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17999907.post-1163134388614615062006-11-09T23:53:00.000-05:002006-11-09T23:53:00.000-05:00You're probably right, S.M.K.v/zB.You're probably right, S.M.K.v/zB.Maury D'annatohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14136129943169313348noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17999907.post-1163110508110478932006-11-09T17:15:00.000-05:002006-11-09T17:15:00.000-05:00Yeah I actually stayed up for that. Showcase the stars and let them just pour forth a glorious sound.

Jamie Oliver was cute tho.Chalkenteroshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08435851223758000117noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17999907.post-1163098430190236422006-11-09T13:53:00.000-05:002006-11-09T13:53:00.000-05:00"I think part of the problem is that it's Il Barbi..."I think part of the problem is that it's Il Barbiere they chose, and as much fun as it can be, it's kind of inherently dowdy and the cast and director and everyone else will always be struggling with that."

I agree!! In the accepted canon of masterpieces, Barbiere is the least fun of the bunch as near as I can tell. Una voce poco fa is great and all that but in the end I know I am going to be undernourished and underamused whenever I see this piece. How ironic that it's a comedy. There are more laughs in William Tell (maybe I exaggerate a little there, but maybe not).Markhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16590837772117677333noreply@blogger.com
