The staging was, of course THE coup de theatre of the last decade at the very least. But as I sat there listening to it I got characterization and even some real beauty out of the vocal line. Partly, I think, it was because of the quality of the singers. But I found Zimmermann's music much more accessible than, say, Schoenberg's in Moses und Aron
which I've seen twice (Sarah Caldwell and the MET) and which I will probably pass on if it ever comes back.Willhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14279473113628377106noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17999907.post-31414600028823281682008-07-29T03:00:00.000-05:002008-07-29T03:00:00.000-05:00That was awesome. That's how much I liked the staging and how And how little I liked the music. (There were some hot musicians in the orchestra, including one timpanist who made me want to manscape my junk to look like a timpani mallet.)

Of course, if Mortier were to stage it, I'd go again.

On the plus side, the Armory whet my appetite for St. Francois d'Assise.

JoeAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
