Don't worry. Maury. I'm still here. Thank you so much for all your support. If you still want the questions, now that I'm not blogging and school has ended for a brief spell, I'm sure I can come up with something...

You don't know me... some random googling brought me to your blog, and when I saw your picture of Lisa Della Casa as Chrysothemis, I was struck with a brief moment of pride for knowing that was her-- until I realized I should have known who else was in the picture with her, too. I'm not trying to find a copy of the picture on the internet for help.

Interesting that the Met movie-casts are doing well; I almost went to one of them in April, but April came and went...

Howdy, Ben, and welcome. I don't know most of the people that comment, but hey, any friend of Lisa della Casa is a friend of Maury's. The picture is from a production of Elektra: della Casa was singing Chrysothemis. Standing behind her is Inge Borkh, an intense vocal actor and my favorite Elektra. The performance, which also featured Jean Madiera as moms and was conducted by Mitropoulos, exists on a recording in ok sound.

That's a great performance, Maury. Borkh was the real deal--oh, to have one like her around today!

Will: it's maybe my fave Borkh Elektra. Actually there's a Met one I like a lot, too, but I think I scritched my copy of it all up. Moral of story: never lend me CDs. Anyway yes it is my fervent dream that somewhere there exists film footage of Borkh. The vocal acting is so insane and she looks like such a madwoman in all the pictures one sees of her in-role, I feel she must have been riveting onstage. She is one of the animating muses of this blog, is our Inge.

My dear Maury, you must have been a good boy of late, as it appears your dreams have been answered. Some kind soul named DayDominie recently posted three short clips of La Borkh on the Tube.

Since time is of the essence with YT these days (and just to be mean), I will give you the quick link to the Fidelio, but from there you can get to, yes count 'em, two Macbeths (Bloch? who knew?).

Good luck tracking down the original docudrama.

Crazy, because every now and then I do search on "Borkh" on youtube. Thank you!

The Bloch Macbeth is the really exciting one because it doesn't appear to be lip-synced, as the other two do. I wonder if the original has any Elektra on it. I'd simply perish from bliss.
