Recommended reading

If you have any interest in music outside of opera (hey, some of us do; some of us don't) I urge you to pick up this week's issue of The New Yorker and read Burkhard Bilger's piece on the unearthing and preserving of American folk music. Fascinating and a marvellous piece of writing.

Thanks for the heads-up, Maury. A nice article indeed. Sort of makes me miss my old job, and that small but excellent part of the customership with whom one could yammer on about Lomax Collection reissues AND how the Met schedule was shaping up that year...

bear: I had a job like that when I was fresh out of college and went to work in the classical room at Tower. I can't get too nostalgic though because it paid $4.25 an hour and was, outside of the as you say customership, really really really boring. I did meet some lovely people there, though.
