Left Coast says: Singing What?

Oh, sorry. It was on Sirius so naturally I assumed everyone with eardrums was tuned in! It's known as Met-centrism, I think.

Roschmann sang Ilia in last night's broadcast performance of Idomeneo.

It was also nice to hear a tenor who could swing all the notes of Fuor del mar and - heavens! -- toss in a few extra on the rebound (in true post-Handelian big-f-off-aria style). Nothin' against the other guys, but I've never understood the Met's casting tendencies for this role.

Thought Deshorties was by far the best thing about this broadcast. All three of her arias were driven and right on. Emotionally connected, musically superb (especially the second and third arias). It seems that as time passes, Roschmann is accentuating her tendency to scoop and hoot. Van Rensburg sounded very tight and constrained, except in Fuor del Mar.
